PWA Freestyle Worldcup - Fuerteventura 2010

Day 02 - Flatwater, hauling winds, flying sand and hundreds of people at Sotavento Beach. That was day 2 of the 2010 Fuerteventura Freestyle Worldcup. The crowd had come to wacth massive Skupo´s , Burners, Spock into Culo´s, Gozada into Burners etc. ..You can´t do anything with those names ? Don´t worry, most people can´t really follow the newest radical Freestyle Moves and Combos, but just to witness the insane show of the best Freestylers in the world is worth being at the beach. The first suprise of the day came already in heat 1 of the day when young and super talented Davvy Scheffers from Holland got kicked out and was the first to wait for the Double Elimination. while most Sailors had some difficulties with the extremely shifting winds, all Top Riders sailed like the conditions were just perfect and so all "big names" as there were Tonky and Taty Frans, Kiri Thode, Gollito Estredo and Steven van Broekhoven made it into teh quarter finals, where surely the Heat between Taty Frans and Steven van Broekhoven was the hardest so far and a really really close one to call for the judges. In the end it was Taty Frans who made into the Semi Final where he should face Worldchampion Gollito Estredo, who found his form after some unusual weak Heats of the Champion. In the other Semifinal Tonky Frans and Kiri Thode were facing each other. Tonky Frans just crashed too many Moves in that Heat to match Kiri Thode. The Heat Taty Frans vs Gollito Estredo became a really exciting especially when Taty Frans landed a great Bonka (forward Loop into Flaka) and a burner Diablo, but estredo managed to fight back with a great Skupo, planning Burner on both tacks, a no handed Airflaka and his new trademark Move, the Matador. Hard work for the Judges indeed and Estredo was the one who advanced into the final. It seems like whatever all other sailors do during the Competition, the final will be Estredo vs Thode and mostly, especially on flatwater like today, those finals are a very very close thing. But today Estredo was just on form in the final and managed to do all his Moves just faster and higher than Thode and even when he had to swim the last 45 seconds after crashing his gear, it was pretty obvious who had won this first Final. Estredo made the first big step to possibly defend his worldtitle, but still there are three more and very tough days to go.
